Community Action Day in Gembrook

Date: Sunday 13 April
Time: 9am - 3pm
Starting At: Gembrook Community Centre

As a follow-up to the UBAG's recent success in halting a spate of logging
in the 350 Block (see Media Release), a Community Action Day was
called where members of the local community had an opportunity to learn about DSE's recent actions and express their support for the UBAG's ongoing
campaign
to stop all logging in the headwaters catchment of the Bunyip River.

The programme was:

9 am

Meet in car park at Gembrook Community Centre

9:30 Set off in convoy for Bunyip State Forest to visit logged coupe
10:00-10:30 Inspect impact at coupe and the aftermath of logging
10:30 Return to Gembrook
12:00-12:45 BYO Lunch in Gembrook Park
1:00-1:30

Slide Show at Community Centre

1:45-3:00 Discussion Session - Theme: "What Do You Want To Do (and What You Can Do!) About This Situation?"

The UBAG presented it's current Log of Claims in the Discussion Session, and sought
the support of those present. This session explored ways in which the local community can bring pressure to bear to end the logging in the 350 Block, and have it preserved
instead for passive recreation and eco-tourism! A very positive outcome, suggested by Councillor Graeme Legge, was that the UBAG should present a set of questions to the Cardinia Council aimed at "giving teeth" to Council's resolution of 19 August 2002.
