UBAG's 'Log of Claims'
enters a new phase in an ongoing campaign.

In the 2002 Victorian election, the UBAG presented the three major
contenders for the new lower-house seat of 'Gembrook' with a 'log of claims'
aimed at protecting the 350 Upper Bunyip forestry block (see below).

The UBAG's log of claims for protecting the 350 Upper Bunyip forestry block
remains essentially the same, as follows:

"The UBAG is seeking

1 (a) That the Premier of Victoria take immediate steps to direct the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) to permanently remove the '350 Upper Bunyip' forestry block from its schedule of areas to be logged, with immediate effect, and

1 (b) that he take immediate steps to direct DSE to close the 350 Block to all forms of motorised recreational pursuits, and

1 (c) that he take immediate steps to annex the 350 Block to the Bunyip State Park as a special reserve for foot-based 'passive' recreational pursuits such as bushwalking, birding, sketching and painting, nature studies, and the like.

2 (a) That the Premier of Victoria direct DSE to officially list the route defined by the combination of the Bunyip Valley Road and the Fishers Track as the "Fishers Loop Walking Track", and

2 (b) that he direct DSE to take all necessary steps, in conjunction with other State government agencies (such as heritage agencies), to protect for all time the existing environmental, cultural and historical values of this loop, in such a way that its significance as a recognised "walking track" will be preserved for future generations.

3 (a) That the Premier of Victoria direct DSE, in conjunction with relevant heritage agencies and aboriginal communities, to conduct an immediate and detailed study of the 350 Block to identify cultural and historical values (including aboriginal values) that may be present within the 350 Block, and

3 (b) that he direct DSE (as the current land manager) to take all necessary steps to fully protect all significant values that are identified by this study."

The UBAG is pursuing this Log of Claims with the new Member for Gembrook,
Ms Tammy Lobato. We ask all UBAG supporters to get behind this new push and
pressure Ms Lobato to lobby the Premier and Minister to stop all future logging
in the 350 Upper Bunyip forestry block! Ms Lobato can be reached by sending mail to
PO Box 558, Beaconsfield 3807 - or via email to tammy.lobato@parliament.vic.gov.au
