Nov '03: The UBAG appeals to all of its supporters to ask Minister Thwaites to call a moratorium on logging in the '350 Upper Bunyip' forestry block for this season while proper independent flora/fauna and cultural surveys are done. Put pressure on the Minister before logging starts. He CAN call for a moratorium in coupes, or throughout the block.

Minister Thwaites's claims re rainforest countered by Melbourne Uni Professor!
Nov '03: The UBAG has received a letter from Minister Thwaites in which he refutes our claim that rainforest can be damaged by runoff and windthrow effects caused by logging operations. This is now countered in an email to the UBAG from a respected professor of botany at the University of Melbourne!

Bull-dozed Fishers Loop track is now closed off by a steel gate
Aug '03: The Bunyip Valley Road, part of the Fishers Loop Walking Track that was bull-dozed by DSE on 19 March to gain access to a fire near the Bunyip River, is now closed off at Tomahawk Gap by a steel gate installed by DSE. The UBAG wants this road to be permanently closed to all but
"Management Vehicles Only" to enable full rehabilitation and to prevent further damage by trail-bikes and FWDs.

Apr '03: The UBAG held a Community Action Day on Sunday 13 April in Gembrook and surrounds, in response to its "success" in having logging in the Southern Bunyip coupe suspended.
